Clappers Glass Bar

Clappers Glass Bar Painting – 8 x 10 canvas board – acrylic paint, oil, acrylic & graphite pens

Before it became Clapper’s Glass Bar, the building at 301 Main St in Schoharie, NY, was home to the Throop Drug Store, established in 1800. This historic structure features a marker out front noting it as the site of the first business in Schoharie County. The Throop Drug Store pharmacy operated for more than 130 years in the building. In 1938, the entire store, including its shelves, was dismantled and moved to the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to serve as a museum exhibit. After the drug store relocated, the building later became a hardware store, which was a long-standing business in the community. It sustained damage during the devastating flood caused by Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011 and did not reopen.

According to local records, Clapper’s Glass Bar has been operating since at least 2013. As a newcomer to Main Street, it joined the effort to breathe new life into the area’s businesses. Known for its welcoming vibe, Clapper’s is a classic neighborhood watering hole featuring free pool tables, shuffleboard, a digital jukebox, and plenty of TVs for sports fans. The menu offers a range of drinks and light bites, including burgers and tater tots.
