In Mykonos, the most iconic flowering trees are bougainvillea — especially the pink varieties that line streets, balconies, and gardens, giving the island its famous colorful look. Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spp.) is a tropical ornamental vine that can grow as a shrub or small tree, producing vibrant, often pink, magenta, or purple bracts that surround small true flowers. It thrives in Greece’s warm, sunny climate and blooms from early spring until late autumn.
This painting takes you along a winding path to a vibrant bougainvillea vine bursting with color, set against whitewashed buildings and the mosaic walkways that lure you through the pathways of Mykonos, Greece.
I used the impasto technique for the bougainvillea vine so that it is in the forefront of the painting and stands out with color and texture. This painting is oil on canvas board, 8×10.
